Zijnsoriëntatie

What is Zijnsoriëntatie?

Zijnsoriëntatie (pronounced Zines-or-ee-en-taht-see) is a path of enlightened life art developed by Hans Knibbe, founder and inspirator of the school for Zijnsoriëntatie. By Zijnsoriëntatie we literally mean: orienting yourself to what is, the ever-present ground dimension of existence. Everything that exists is a form of what is. When you are aware of that, you become contactfully present in the Now. The merry-go-round of striving and avoidance, always pointing to the future or the past, no longer has you in its grip. It is like stepping out of a constriction and suddenly standing in an open space. This open space of what is turns out to be intrinsically free of all your patterns, feelings and thoughts. You relax and get in touch with inspiration, love and zest for life.

Contemporary spiritual path

Zijnsoriëntatie helps you to substantially deepen and enrich your life. The School for Zijnsoriëntatie and teachers of Zijnsoriëntatie with their own learning spaces in the Netherlands and Belgium have specialised in offering a contemporary path of enlightened life art, which you can follow without haste and which is tailored to Western man.

We sum up our approach with “Rest in what is and do what you want.”

You learn to “rest in what is” in the various meditation forms offered in the learning space of Zijnsoriëntatie. When you rest in what is you get in touch with the original openness of Being. You are then no longer defined by limiting assumptions about yourself and the world. Resting in this openness, your inherent qualities of being such as love, compassion, strength and wisdom spontaneously appear.

To “do what you want,” you must know how to detach yourself from your historically determined identity and habitual patterns. You discover new unknown parts of yourself. It is a gratifying process of becoming who you really are. But it also takes courage to get to know yourself in this way and to take new steps in your life that are consistent with who you have discovered to be.

Enlightened life art

It is the specialty of Zijnsoriëntatie to connect the consciousness training of “resting in what is” with psychological counseling. This allows you to integrate new insights and skills into your life. You learn to organize your work and relationships based on Enlightened Awareness In shaping what you really want, you must dare to be broader than the historically determined assumptions about yourself and the world. We call this “do what you want.

This individuation process – becoming who you really are – is, in our view, the most important work you can do. It is a gift not only to yourself but also to the world.

To make this process possible, this learning space Zijnsoriëntatie has a program, in which you are personally guided and learn to know and release your defenses without pressure and haste.

You will be taught various meditation forms and psychological methods on the path. Our path is based on the daily practice of meditation. Only then can the path bear fruit.

Hans Knibbe

Hans Knibbe

Hans Knibbe (b. 1949) is the founder and inspirer of the school for Zijnsoriëntatie (1987). He graduated as a clinical psychologist in 1975 and devoted himself to mastering the so-called humanistic forms of therapy such as Gestalt and Imagery, including training at J. Stattman’s “institute of unitive psychology. During the same period, he also studied Advaita and Buddhism.

After several years of being a member of the group practice unitary psychology and also teaching unitary training, his spiritual development led him to choose the inherent and ever-present wholeness of the person as the starting point of his counseling. This led to the development of Zijnsoriëntatie and, in its wake, the establishment of the School for Zijnsoriëntatie.

Dzogchen became his main spiritual source. He has attended retreats with Sogyal, Namkhai Norbu, Tsoknyi Rinpoche, Tenzin Wangyal and Dan P. Brown.

He deepened his psychological knowledge with object relationship and attachment theories.

He currently serves as content director and administrator of the School for Zijnsoriëntatie, conducts retreats, supervision, continuing education and a nondual teacher training program for graduate teachers.

“There is a great treasure within us. An inexhaustible source of wealth, love and clarity.”
